Euphoria's Palash Sen apologises day after his 'sexist' remark at IIT-B sparked row

Palash Sen said: “Some students took offence to what I said. I apologise for that. It was meant to be humour."

Euphoria's lead singer Palash Sen has run into trouble over his allegedly sexist and misogynistic remarks during Mood Indigo, IIT Bombay's annual cultural fest, recently. Even as IITians expressed anger over the comments on social media sites, Mood Indigo organisers tendered an apology about the incident.

Sen allegedly made the comments during the band's concert on Saturday. While some students took them as humour, several others were offended. The matter escalated after a blog post by Arpita Phukan Biswas, a researcher in the field of caste and gender and a student of Humanities and Social Sciences department at IIT Bombay, went viral.

Biswas, who was at the concert, wrote in her blog: "His (Palash Sen's) slew of sexist barrage began with seemingly the most pressing concern of IIT boys on campus — do boys have enough good-looking girls to look at and hit on? So he asked, 'Are there good-looking girls in IIT-B?' Men, both from and outside IIT-B, raised their hands in solidarity to signal no. So he asked again, 'Are there good-looking girls in IIT-B?' The hands were raised again... He went on adding: 'Don't worry guys, you will find the best looking women when you leave this campus. Aur woh tumhaare liye roti belengi (and they will make rotis for you). Women are for beauty, men are for intelligence. You have to agree that men are more intelligent than women, don't you?' The crowd went hysterical at this point."

"It's not just me who was offended by his (Palash Sen's) comments, there were many girls and boys who did not like how he picked on women on the campus and made those misogynist comments, many of which I have not mentioned in my blog," said Biswas.

Biswas took up the matter with the Mood Indigo team, who assured her that it was done in good humour. The organisers posted an apology on the official Facebook page, which states: "We strongly condemn the remarks of Palash Sen at the concert yesterday. We apologize on our part for the band's remarks. The organizing committee is in the process of deciding further action in the matter."byy indianexpress.com

Amitabh Bachchan praising Abhishek Bachchan for his success at the box office tweeted: "'Dhoom 3' weekend collection all India is Rs 107 crore. This is going beyond all records ever !! And going beyond berserk," Bachchan, 71, posted on Twitter.
Also starring Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan in a negative role, 'Dhoom: 3' entered the exclusive Rs. 100 crore club within three days of its release. Earlier SRK's 'Chennai Express' was the fastest to enter the Rs 100 crore club in four days of its release.

The third installment in Yash Raj Film's 'Dhoom' franchise had collected Rs. 107.61 crore by Sunday. With such massive collections, 'Dhoom: 3' has also toppled Hrithik Roshan's 'Krrish 3' to emerge as the new record holder.

After a few dull weeks at the box office, cine lovers can look forward to this year's most anticipated movie Dhoom: 3 which is expected to close 2013 with a big bang. Directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and starring Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Uday Chopra, the movie is the third instalment of the Dhoom series.

Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra are reprising their roles as Jai Dixit and Ali Akbar while Aamir and Katrina's characters are reportedly named Sahir and Aaliya respectively. The plot apparently revolves around gymnast/clown-turned-thief Sahir and his accomplice Aaliya who are trying to give the slip to supercop Jai Dixit. The trailer also features Aamir in a variety of high-octane stunts - running down the side of a skyscraper, and performing many jumps on bikes. In hot pursuit are cop Abhishek Bachchan, who engages in a fiery bike-mounted duel with Aamir, and sidekick Uday Chopra.

If that is anything to go by, the movie promises to be a nailbiting sequence of unpredictable events and heart-stopping stunts.

Also up for release this Friday is the Hollywood animated comic science fiction movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 which is the sequel to the 2009 film Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. In the first film, the protagonist Flint Lockwood and his friends saved the world from the food storm by controlling a food-making machine. Deepika Padukone's guest list for her party on Saturday night keeps growing and now she had to shift the venue...

Deepika Padukone has been planning to have a get-together for a long time now. The idea is to celebrate her successful year with three back-to-back hits. On the coming Saturday, she has arranged a huge party and has invited the who's who of the industry.

A source close to her says, `Ideally, Deepika wanted to have small party at home and started jotting down names. But when she actually completed a list of people which she wanted to invite. To her surprise, the list went so long that she chose to change the venue. Now the party will take place in a luxurious hotel at Worli.

It is a feel good party and since she has not hosted a party for a long time for her staff too, she is making sure that she invites everyone personally. Her family might not be party to this celebration and she is keen to have special time with them and celebrate later only with them.`

As of now, the Sri Lankan beauty is shooting in Karjat for a film opposite Salman Khan in Sajid Nadiadwala's Kick. And going by our source, she won't be able to make it to Deepika's success bash. `Nevertheless, she has decided to send over a hamper of muffins, that she will personally bake for Deepika,` says a friend of Jackie's.

Friends No More? Here's what transpired at Sussane's store launch..

Once like a happy family, now disintegrated... what really happened with this bunch of star friends?

Sussanne Khan Roshan's store launch on Wednesday night showed an interesting bunch of guests but it also belied truths that were hard to hide. It was a group that boasted of star power, glamour, beauty and talent. Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne, Arjun Rampal and Mehr Jessia, Karan Johar, Sanjay and Maheep Kapoor.


They would party together almost every fortnight at Mannat and the ladies would sometimes take off for exotic holidays together. The men in the group bonded big time too and even loved working with each other. They stood by each other like friends do and shared all their innermost secrets, apart from the fun and camaraderie.


They were a bunch of happy, carefree people hanging together and partying together all the time. Their friendship was the envy of a lot of other people in the industry and it was almost impossible to filter into this tight coterie. Two years and many turbulences later, the team has scattered in many directions, with some of the once-upon-bosom-buddies refusing to even see eye to eye.


Things started apparently coming apart one fateful night at a party in Mannat to celebrate Gauri's birthday. Some of the group members were apparently getting peeved about SRK's growing friendship with Priyanka Chopra. According to sources, SRK didn't take kindly to Arjun and Mehr's rather aggressive stand against this friendship. After that, the Rampals have said to have never stepped into Mannat again.

Incidentally, it was while Ra One was being made and Shah Rukh and Arjun would meet on the sets every day. Later, things apparently started heating up and it is said that Karan Johar and SRK's friendship also started getting affected because of this. Priyanka is said to have had a fall out with the girl gang too, but it was Kjo who later extended an olive branch towards PeeCee by inviting her to his birthday party.


After this incident, apparently the parties were moved to Sanjay and Maheep Kapoor's residence instead of Mannat. The other members of the group continued meeting as earlier. Gauri's girl gang continued meeting and making plans together. In fact, one of the many parties that the gang attended together was Hrithik Roshan's surprise birthday party early this year, in a yacht.

Ironically, Sussanne had sought the help of the Rampal couple to arrange this party. Shah Rukh Khan didn't attend it but rest of the gang did. And then came the rift in Sussanne and Hrithik's marriage and rumours of Arjun and Sussanne's friendship. Hrithik is said to be now keeping away from the group. Coming back to Sussanne's party, Shah Rukh did make a brief appearance while Gauri stayed on longer.


Arjun came with Mehr but apparently didn't share a word with SRK or Gauri. Gauri constantly had Kjo by her side. Incidentally, Salman and Shah Rukh didn't bump into each other as Salman had left by the time SRK arrived. The interesting part is that Sussanne left with the Rampal couple to go to Sanjay and Maheep Kapoor's house where the after party of the launch was organised. Apparently the party went on till the wee hours of the night and Sussanne left the venue at 4.10am and Arjun and Mehr left at around 3.30am.

Missing
Interestingly, Sussanne's family was missing from her big launch. Only older sister Farah Khan Ali made a brief appearance.
