Deepika Padukone was very convincing as a Tamil girl in Chennai Express. The actress is now shrugging off her famous Meenamma image and will be seen as a Marathi girl in Farah Khan’s Happy New Year. In the movie, Deepika plays a dancer from Bhandup, situated in the suburbs of Mumbai. For the role she has to look and wear tacky clothes, go over-the-top in her styling, which we know is certainly not Deepika Padukone’s personal style. Guess who’s the latest beauty to catch the attention of Salman Khan? It’s the cute and pretty Elli Avram in the Bigg Boss 7 house. Elli, for one, has refrained from calling Bollywood’s most eligible bachelor, Salman bhai. Rather she called him Salman ‘Jaan’, which pleased the 47-year-old star no end. Elli has been quick to come to notice in the house after she picked a heated argument withArmaan Kohli. On the elimination day, she was a hot topic of discussion for Salman Khan who showed particular interest in her spat with Kohli. However, the elimination axe fell on another one of Salman’s favourites, Hazel Keech. Salman Khan has also been gracious to help Elli with her pidgin Hindi. And when Elli Avram,Kushal Tandon and Gauhar Khan performed for Shahid Kapoor and Ileana D'Cruzon the show, Salman was quite impressed by Elli’s performance. When Elli called him Salman ‘Jaan’, the superstar was quick to add that Elli shouldn’t be in Bigg Boss house but in the house of the host (that is himself). Of course, he later clarified he was joking, but it’s the flirty banter that got the people talking about Salman and Elli. For the time being Elli Avram is learning Hindi from wrestler Sangram Singh. DIWALI IN NY Diwali arrived a month early in Times Square, New York, thanks to the special day-long festivities with Ranbir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor and Pallavi Sharda being the biggest draw. The ‘Diwali At Times Square’ extravaganza was organized by Maharashtra Tourism on Sunday. It was a daylong event in which Indian culture, Indian cuisine and Indian music was showcased. The Besharam team comprising Ranbir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor and Pallavi Sharda arrived all charged up to entertain the crowd. They performed to a medley of their famous songs, including the tracks from Besharam. The event saw a huge turnout of fans, particularly the Indian Americans. While Ranbir, dressed in a black sherwani, danced and interacted with fans, his father Rishi Kapoor recalled how the people of New York have showered him with love every time he visits the city. from apun ka choice.

UNSTOPPABLE DEEPIKA! Step aside Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor. The Deepika Padukonejuggernaut is on a roll and it’s squashing everything in its path. Just how much is too much? Don’t ask that to the dishy Deepika who’s had a roaring 2013 so far and is still not done. Her January release Race 2 grossed 100.45 crore net at the box office. May brought an added cheer with Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani minting a whopping Rs. 188.57 crore. And now Chennai Express has scorched all previous box office records and written history with Rs. 211 crore net and still counting. Just add the numbers up and you get Rs. 500.02 crore worth of business that Deepika’s 2013 releases have done so far. No other actress, not even Katrina Kaif or Kareena Kapoor, venture anywhere close. While Katrina Kaif hasn’t had any release this year, she had two big ones in 2012: Ek Tha Tiger(Rs. 198.78 crore) and Jab Tak Hai Jaan (Rs. 120.85 crore). The total comes just a little under Rs. 320 crore, way below Deepika’s 500 crore mark. Kareena Kapoor ranks still below with Rs. 263.15 crore of cumulative collection from Bodyguardand Ra.One in 2011. And let’s not forget that Deepika Padukone is still looking ahead at her fourth release of 2013, theSanjay Leela Bhansali directed Ram Leela. Box office: 'Phata Poster' opens slow, 'The Lunchbox' shows promise

The two new releases of the week, Phata Poster Nikhla Hero and The Lunchboxopened to a strictly average response at the box office. Starring Shahid Kapoor and Ileana D'Cruz and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, Phata Poster Nikhla Hero managed to mint just Rs. 6 crore net approximately on its first day at the box office. The figure is clearly below the mark as an opening of around 10 crore (give and take a crore or two) is usually deemed par for the course if the film is to have a decent opening weekend. The movie saw a good response in Rajasthan, UP and central India, but couldn’t attract expected footfalls in Mumbai, Delhi and Punjab. 'Phata Poster Nikhla Hero' movie review One of the reasons could be the good run of the last week’s release Grand Masti. The film has galloped close to the Rs. 70 crore net mark in its eight-day’s run so far. The 100 crore milestone looks a possibility, but we’ll have to wait and watch. The other release of this week, The Lunchbox, fared well at the multiplexes and collected around Rs. 1.25 crore net on the opening day, despite it being an arthouse film with Irrfan Khan and Nimrat Kaur in leading roles.
